70 years ago this month

For most of June the Battalion are at Arce, north-west of Cassino. CO Lt-Col Young is keeping them occupied and out of mischief. The American’s have occupied Rome. Read the war diary for June 1944 here.

Lieutenant Colonel Keiha in Egypt

Portrait of Lieutenant-Colonel K. A. Keiha MC, taken at Maadi, Egypt, in August 1943. Of Rongowhakaata, Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki and Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti descent, Kingi Āreta (Reta) Keiha (1900-1961) was the Māori Battalion's sixth commanding officer, leading the unit from 22 April to 11 September 1943.
