Tena koe e te whanaunga,

I am Kahukuramehiata's daughter Sallie, I just want to share with you, when my mum, your Aunty Tup was alive she wanted to very much go to Italy to find her brother, it wasn't until she died when i was talking to my niece who mentioned this to me, she also said, Nanny wanted to go and put a poppy on his grave and bring his wairua home.  I was very fortunate that our son was playing rugby in France at the time so I said to my husband let's go for a visit and take mums poppy and find our Uncle.  So with a bit of prep we did, it wasn't easy to find him but we did.  I did a we apakura to him and then laid mums poppy and photo of her and dad in front of the headstone, I then sung mum's favourite hymn (Maku ra pea).  It was a very emotional time for my son, husband and I, but also a trip very much rewarded that I could do what my mum would've done.  Our fallen soldiers in Europe are very well looked after and cared for by those who they fought against and those who they defended.  A mixed up world we live in.
