70 years ago this month

For most of June the Battalion are at Arce, north-west of Cassino. CO Lt-Col Young is keeping them occupied and out of mischief. The American’s have occupied Rome. Read the war diary for June 1944 here.

Son of Ritete Porter Meremuka (nee Hepihi) of Matangirau Whangaroa. Grandson of William Porter and Marara (nee Tupe) Husband of Mary and father of Rihipeti (AKA Minnie). Cousin of George Porter (62859) killed in Tunisia, Joe Porter (67648),Albert Porter (810737) and Ben Porter (39424). All their fathers are brothers.
