The official 28th War History written by Cody mentions Charles on pg 440. In the footnote to his name it gives L-Corporal as his rank. I'm not sure which is correct. He was wounded on 27/4/45 while showing his cousin, Bert Ropiha around the battle field. He stepped on a mine which cost him both legs. Apparently he was mistaken for dead and placed in a room with others awaiting burial. The sentry on duty at the time was given the fright of his life when he heard a voice coming from a supposedly dead soldier. Moe mai ra e te ha koro i tou moenga roa.
