Our Hangi Later On Christmas Day 1943

Egypt, at our boys "home away from home" - Maori Training Depot, Maadi Camp, Christmas 1943.

These Maori Battalion fellows after what appears to be a recently uncoverd hangi and seem to be extracting some food for dinner for the themsleves after others who have been tasting and enjoying hangi flavours and food. A Divisional Christmas dinner was prepared for all existing personnel at Maadi during the day so i presume this hangi was set up by the guys themselves for an early evening dinner while enjoying a beer or two.

Although officially photographer is unknown or records were not unusually lost, I believe official NZ Army Photogragher George Robert Bull is responsible for this photo, as he was active on this day else where at Maadi Camp and has a distinctive and very high quality style of image generation.
