In 1943 the reconstructed centennial house Tama te Kapua was opened at Ōhinemutu, Rotorua. The gathering was attended by many tribes and by Reinforcements of the 28th Maori Battalion. These men had been in training at Ōhaeawai and other places in North Auckland.
