Maori Battalion Transports In For Service..

Christmas 1942 near Nofilia. The 4th Reserve Mechanical Transport company (RMT) have arrived with their mobile Workshop and Mechanical sections to attend to the Maori Battalion transports placed together in the field for service and urgent repairs..which in general terms means these extremely hard working trucks had tyres or wheels changed..engines, gearboxes, axles, springs serviced indeed what ever was requiring service or replacment.. around the clock to enable the Battalion's companies to move at a moments notice.

These mechanics and engineers were entirely unsung heroes of the 2nd New Zealand Division especially working in desert conditions.

Exceptionally rare type of candid photo taken by Captain Hayward.
