George Bertrand

Lieutenant-Colonel George Bertrand who served as second in command of the Māori Battalion during its first year overseas and then commanding officer of the 2nd Maori Battalion which was formed in 1942 and stationed in New Zealand. Bertrand, of French and Maori (Taranaki) descent, also served in WWI and aas a territorial officer between the two world wars.
