1 NZ MOB CCS Hospital Presenzano Cassino

One of the many locations the  NZ Division field hospital was positioned, this one the 1st. Mobile Casualty Clearing Station at Presenzano, situated 15 miles from Cassino itself along a good quality highway, suitable for quick transit from the Advanced and Medical Dressing Stations around Cassino itself during 1944. Captain Ted Hayward's then fiancee Nursing Sister Marguerite King's earthy challenging working space and what must have also been an horrific extension of the battle zones...not only caring for our boys but often  German and Italian sick and wounded as well..My heart totally goes out to these unsung heroic Doctors, Nurses, Orderlies, indeed the whole 2nd NZEF Medical Support Unit as the price of war is paid for initially in these hospitals and for many sadly, the rest of their lives..
