70 years ago this month

For most of June the Battalion are at Arce, north-west of Cassino. CO Lt-Col Young is keeping them occupied and out of mischief. The American’s have occupied Rome. Read the war diary for June 1944 here.

Passed away: 9th March 2012 28th Maori Battallion D COY – 67790 (Captain) Of Whanganui on March 9 2012, peacefully at home surrounded by his whanau aged 95. Loved son of Charles and Te Kura i Awarua Osborne and whanau. Loved whangai of Te Kiira and Ngaruaki Peina. Dearly loved husband of Saxon (Sue)( nee Bullock). Loved father of Jennifer and the late Jackie Tamehana, Charles and Hape, Mereana and the late Reuben Parkinson, Wendy and Bob Pittaway, Bill and Pia, and James (Nick) and Sue. Loved Koro to his many grand-children, great grand-children and great great grand-children. A service for Bill will be held at the Pungarehu Marae, Whanganui River, on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 11am.
