Hi im trying to help my sister find out about her father & his war service. any on have photo's family geneology etc would be really welcomed., as for the site AWESUM great job and very helpfull

Tena koe, Thanks for your message. You should first request Frederick Kaui’s personnel file from the NZ Defence Force archives. It's free or pay $25 and you get it faster - see details here: https://www.nzdf.mil.nz/nzdf/medal-and-service-records/service-records/ This will give you information on his war service. But there may not be a lot of detail. What you will get however are important dates – when he enlisted, embarked for war and the theatres of war he participated in. To supplement this information and to get a bit more context you can refer to our website and particularly Monty Soutar’s Nga Tama Toa This link will give you information about the 9th Reinforcements (which is the group Frederick embarked with): maori reinforcements Monty Soutar’s Nga Tama Toa is about C Company (who Federick Kaui served with) and it might not have specific detail about your sister’s father but as the book uses a lot of veteran accounts it will give you an idea of his experiences and where he fought. Most libraries have copies and you can purchase it from the publisher online: https://www.batemanbooks.co.nz/product/nga-tama-toa/ Another possibility is to make contact with the C Company House in Gisborne. Where this contact is useful is that the Nga Taonga a Nga Tama Trust look after the house, but they also house the research collection gathered during the writing of the book Nga Tama Toa. There might be information/photos in their collection of relevance to your sister’s father. Understand though that they are a voluntary organisation and may not be able to easily help you because of resource constraints. I hope this information is helpful. All the best with your search. Noho ora mai,
