Evacuated from Crete to Alexandria

Māori soldiers queue up at Alexandria, Egypt, following their evacuation from Crete at the end of May 1941. As the photograph shows, complete uniforms were rare, with the men dressed in an assortment of clothes. Jerry Haenga of Tūpāroa is holding a cigarette to his mouth.

WO2 Wiremu TeMoa Lambert 39087, 5th from front holding white cup. As in life, imacculately dressed, shirt buttoned to the top and sleeves rolled down even tho he's just been kicked off Crete
