Its only now that I am having a better appreciation of our late uncles service. I am a ex-serviceman myself so its important that now that he has passed as well as his sibblings (my late whangai mum Ripeka Hamuera HAKOPA) that I undertake mahi to claim his medals which I learned were unclaimed all these years. Unknown why he didnt claim them, but I guess like so many of those who served he too may have wanted to forget. Nga mihi
