Hi Carloyn, my name is Steve Andrews, I just found this site about the Maori Battalion and looked up my mum's uncle, who was Jack Hemi- your dad. My mum is Martha (or more commonly known as Jackie) Andrews, so that would mean she is your cousin, I guess. She was a Macdonald from Picton, but has lived in Wellington for many years. I noticed your message about more information about Jack Hemi, I have a photo of Jack from a leaflet which I scanned that mum gave me, so will try and find it for you, and e-mail it to you. I also went to Te Papa museum 4 years ago whilst I was visiting home ( I live in London at the moment) and took a photo of who I believe to be your dad from a Maori Battalion group portrait which is in the museum. Likewise, I can e-mail you that as well. I guess I shall await a reply from you before I go on the hunt for these two photo's. my e-mail address is: [email protected] hope to hear from you soon, Cheers ; Steve.
Jack Henry Hemi is my fathers brother, ( my uncle) Dads name is Peter Te Pou Hemi, anyone got any photos of him this would be much appreciate. I would love to know more about my uncle and also for my father.
