Uncle Jack was my nannies brother. He also had another brother in the maori batallion, Solomon Maunsell, Unsure as to why they were enlisted under two different surnames, However, Maunsell was the pakeha name for Manihera. Uncle Jack came back from the war but Uncle Solomon didn't. I am so so proud to have the same blood running through my veins. I have beautiful memories of Uncle Jack as a child. He lived a five minute walk from our house in Poroti, Northland. I remember him as such a softly spoken gentle man, who always gave me fruit. He is buried in the Maunu Cemetary, Whangarei. RIP Uncle Jack

I am the eldest grandchild of Jack Maunsell. I lived with him and my Nana in Whangarei until I was 8 years old. My cousin Leanne also lived with us.When I wasa child I loved my Papa dearly. He is always in my thoughts.
