Te Ruki Kawiti Rongo Paraone-Brown

Ruki Brown

Te Ruki PARAONE (also known as Kawiti Rongo) is a direct descendant of the Ngati Hine paramount chief Te Ruki Kawiti - through his grandfather Hirini Maihi KAWITI (eldest son of Maihi KAWITI).

He was required to enlist by conscription in February 1917 and served the duration of WW1 with the Maori Pioneer Battalion (17th Maori Reinforcements).  Te Ruki was deployed to the blood fields of Estaples, France where he witnessed the extremes of war until discharged in May 1919, returning home a broken man.

Kia maumahara tatou!
