"Chaplain Captain Wharetini Rangi of Te Aitanga a Hauiti reached the Battalion before his 51st birthday. His three sons were already in Egypt. Originally from Mangatuna near Tolaga Bay, Rangi had married and settled with his wifes people at Ruatoki. She was Hinerotu, the daughter of Numia Kereru, one of the leading men of Ruatoki".[1]
