Hongi Hau (Howe) son of Wiremu Pahi and Pipikoneke Hau from Rawhiti. Hongi served with D Company and embarked with the 5th Reinforcements.
Hongi's two brothers Jack (Haki) and Wi and a number of cousins also served with the Māori Battalion. Altogether 13 members of this family served in the war.
