Māori Battalion troops in Bren Gun Carriers advance to the front near Rimini, Italy, in September 1944. The men in the nearest carrier are (left to right): Hone Pura Turner of Kihikihi (who would be killed in action on 31 January 1945), Te Tuhi Callaghan of Waihau Bay, Hone Jack Turoa of Muriwai, Poihipi Paora of Te Kaha, and 2nd Lieutenant Te Uaki (Monty) Searanke of Ōtorohanga.
