Poi Hakena (Jackson) Phillips - D Coy - Reg.No.800875

This is my Uncle Jackson Phillips who went to war as part of the Ngāti Maniapoto contribution to the War effort.

Six of my other uncles also went away with the 28 Māori Battalion.  They were Hautapu Newton, Edward Ngarotata, James Herewini Te Tahi, Charlie Te Whau, James Porima Rangitutia and Douglas Te Whau.

Etc who's his parents etc. Would so appreciate it if I could get those details so I can link him to us and do his whakapapa so whanau know who he is. Could you help?? Nga mihi Tania

Tena koe Tania,It was good to see someone wanting information on a 28 Veteran. My lateMother in Law Rangi Hemmingson (nee Mita) who was born and raised in Piopio, provided the information connected with the photo of Jackson Phillips and the photo was given to us by Uncle Jackson's daughter Connie. We don't have that much information on the Te Whau (brothers?), but cousin Abraham would be the man to speak to. He has returned to live on the Mita family farm at Piopio. Please advise if you would like to get in touch with Abraham - I will give him a call to see that it is okay.Naku noa na,Brian How J.P.
