Brothers in arms..

Touching and very rare type of photo of 28 Maori battalion B Coy. acting Captain Ted Hayward finally arriving at his loved  elder brother John's (20th Battalion KIA 27 nov.1941) gravesite at Belhammed in Libya around the Christmas 1941.This area of course noted for the near complete destruction during the push to relieve Tobruk of Lance Bombadier John Hayward's 20 Battalion in a notorious action explained elsewhere in my photographic profile titled.."Ted's Brother...John's grave at Belhammed Libya"

Note the popular style left side position Ted prefered for his .45 revolver issued only to officers, with other ranks receiving a .38 caliber pistols where necessary.

Ted Hayward from Rotorua above was one of four brothers who collectively fought during WW2.

My grandfather Blokey Hayward was a younger brother of John,Tiwara Ted.....I always heard stories from my koro about his brothers when I was growing up and remember a photo of his oldest brother Jack(as he called him),in uniform and also of Ti(as he called him)

This is my granddad who died when I was 7, my father is Peter Hayward who is the youngest of the his children. I didn't know my granddad very well and most of my memories of him are when he was admitted to the hospital in his final years. These photos and the bio on his contribution to the war are so special to me and my many thanks go out to the creators of this site.
