Corporal Maku Hale's grave at Coromandel

My grandfather Maku Hale's grave where he was laid to rest on the 18th of June 1953 at the Buffalo service persons cemetary at Coromandel.

Corporal Maku Hale (reg no 16/96) was part of the 1st Maori Contingent NZEF WW1 and saw action at Gallipoli and at the Western Front in France. He was wounded late in 1916 and eventually sent to the UK where he recovered over a 5 month period and then returned home during 1917.

He died on the 15th of June 1953.

My sincere apologies for my younger half sister Stephanie Kay's emotional comment.

This is our grandfather's grave. This website provides excellent opportunities for people to share information about our tupuna who fought in the 28th Māori battalion. However, we did not give permission for Denis Clough to take a photo of our grandfathers grave and upload it to this website. How dare he do this without consulting us or asking our permission. We do not know Denis Clough - who is Muku Hale?
