About Me
I am the son of Lt.Col. Humphrey Goring Dyer, who went overseas to England with the Maori Battalion as Major, commanding D Company and Quarter Master of the troopship Aquitania. He served in Greece, Crete (where he is best remembered as commanding the "Suicide Squad" rearguard and for his tribute to those of the Squad, the booklet Ma Te Reinga), and Libya, where he briefly commanded the Battalion as Temporary Lt. Col., until transferred by Freyberg as Lt. Col. and Base Commander of the Brigade at Maadi. See my account of his life and the events leading to his replacement by Colonel Love
