Nolan Raihania, Taupō excursion December 2010

Nolan Raihania on the recent 28 Māori Battalion veterans excursion to Taupō in December 2010.

Nolan is the only surviving 28 Māori Battalion member from Muriwai, a small settlement south of Gisborne and part of the tribal area of Ngāi Tāmanuhiri.  He was at school in Muriwai when the war started.  He also attended Te Aute College for three years before signing up when he was 16 and he eventually went away to war when he was 17.

Nolan served with C Company and was with the Twelfth Reinforcements.  

He was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in 2011.
