About Me
I am a grand son of Pte Te Moana Katae and was named after him. Having received his name I inherited some of his WW2 heirlooms - including his service medals and dog tags. I was born 2 weeks after his death in February 1983, so I do not have any memories of him. He was laid to rest in Tikitiki East Coast, next to his brother Henry Katae - who also served in the Maori Battalion (C Company). I was raised in the Far North among my fathers people, so never learnt too much about my mothers side of the family (her Father being Pte Te Moana Katae). I attend the ANZAC Day parades regularly and wear his medals with pride. I am currently a Senior Corrections Officer employed by the NZ Department of Corrections. I will likely retun my grand fathers WW2 heirlooms to Te Araroa (East Coast) where they can be appreciated by all his mokopuna. Otherwise, I will hand them down to my son: Noah Te Moana Katae Wihongi as he too is named after my grand father. Me and my family reside in the Bay of Islands (Northland New Zealand).
