Sister Marguerite Helen (Peggy) King,in her prime..

2nd NZEF Nursing Sister Marguerite (Peggy) King. She later became Captain E.V. Hayward's wife of the 28 (Maori) Battalion. Sister King worked as a medical Army nurse leaving with the 1st Echelon 1940 until her return late 1945, therefore she participated in every battle arena that the 2nd NZEF fought in, including Crete. She remained a civilian professional working nurse in Rotorua until the age of 72, with long serving work at the wounded Veterans Queen Elizabeth rehabilitaion hospital post war also in Rotorua. Of course she would have known many of these permanently wounded boys from the time they arrived off the many battlefields in North Africa, Greece, Crete, and Italy. A wonderfull legacy to a dedicated nurse.
