Maori Battalion members Padre Wi Huata and YMCA Officer Norman Perry (later Sir) waiting for a bridge to clear at Cassino in Italy 1944.  Some hours later Perry was severely wounded by German artillery which was in the main considerably more concentrated than previously experienced in the North African Desert.YMCA Officer Perry was a very popular member of the Battalion, a good friend for many post war years of Padre Huata and could speak in fluent Maori language.
