Tuhoe leader John Rangihau served with the Māori Battalion embarking with the 14th Reinforcements. He initially enlisted with the Royal New Zealand Air Force and served with Delta unit as a trainee crewman. He transferred to the Army in September 1944 and served with B Company of the Māori Battalion.[1]
