70 years ago this month

For most of June the Battalion are at Arce, north-west of Cassino. CO Lt-Col Young is keeping them occupied and out of mischief. The American’s have occupied Rome. Read the war diary for June 1944 here.

You have his mother as next of kin, however you have assigned her as being in Otago. That is incorrect, they resided in the Taupo-Turangi area. I beieve Waitahuna should be Waitahunanui. Rakateitei is unce to my father in law. The family farm is at Tauranga Taupo.

Sorry that should read Waitahanui and is most probably the old area by the Tongariro River before the Lake level was raised not the area currently known as Waitahanui.

I would have thought the enlistment details you have recoded on this site would have come from the original Army records completed by this soldier at the time of enlistment. Not sure what happened here but he either faked the information to enlist or it is correct, only Rakateitei knows for sure. Sorry to interfer.
